Doctoral Degrees

Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction

The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Curriculum and Instruction is designed for the advanced student who wants to contribute to the knowledge base of teaching, education, and leadership with a thorough grounding in research. The Ph.D. has traditionally been seen as an academic degree because it places emphasis on the usefulness of theory, understanding educational research, and the production of research.

Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction

The Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Curriculum and Instruction is designed for the advanced student who wants to achieve a superior level of competency in his or her professional field with emphasis on practice and leadership. The program provides an understanding of the historical, philosophical, and societal bases of educational practice and the application of research to practice. With an emphasis on the challenges facing contemporary K-12 educators, admission to the Ed.D. program is limited to licensed educators with at least three years of classroom teaching experience.
